Stage 0

Creating accounts

1. Create an account for yourself on http://spoken-tutorial.org
2. Initimate the IITB Team Leader with whom you are coordinating, that you have done so
3. Share your username with him/her so that he/she can authenticate your role as contributor
4. Once done, we will create an account for you on http://spoken-tutorial.org/script
5. Skip the above steps if you are already a contributor
6. Choose the script you want to dub and get a confirmation from your IITB Team Leader or write to     [administrator@spoken-tutorial.org]
7. Read the script a couple of times to understand the content explained
8. If in doubt, please email your queries to your IITB Team Leader or to     [administrator@spoken-tutorial.org]

Stage 1

General Instructions

1. Make sure that you have the required font installed on your computer
2. We recommend that you use LibreOffice Writer to type your script
3. Watch the video Typing in local languages in the LibreOffice Writer series on our website to know how to type in various Indian languages
4. In LibreOffice Writer, the script should be typed in wiki-markup so that you can directly copy and paste it later
5. To see a sample wiki-markup script, please visit English-Timed-script and do the following -
   1. Login to script-wiki, since you have an account there
   2. Click on the edit tab
   3. Now copy and paste the wiki-markup to your document in LibreOffice Writer
   4. Type your translated sentences in the Narration column part, as shown in the sample that you copied

Translation Instructions

1. Translate the script sentence by sentence
2. Take enough care to see that each sentence when translated takes same or lesser time to read out than the original sentence
3. In some cases, you may merge 2 sentences in the translation so as to match the timing of the original 2 sentences
4. Use simple and precise words while translating
5. Retain common words like window, mouse, cursor, etc. in English
6. Read out the entire translated script and confirm the timing of each sentence again
7. Review the translated script against the Dubbers' Checklist and make the required modifications

Upload Instructions

1. Login to the spoken tutorial website
2. Click on Upload Other Language Tutorial option
3. Choose from the drop-down boxes for FOSS, Level, Language and Tutorial Name and Submit
4. You will come to another page
5. First fetch the English outline and translate it. To do so, follow these steps -
   1. Next to Outline option, you will see the message pending in the textbox
   2. Click on the Add button next to the Outline textbox
   3. This will take you to another page
   4. In Outline Status drop-down, choose Get from English
   5. Now copy this outline to a new LibreOffice Writer file and translate it
   6. Then copy and paste the translated outline back into the textbox on the website
   7. Change the Outline Status to Required
   8. Click on Submit
6. You will come back to the previous page with the Outline textbox filled with the translated outline that you copied and pasted
7. Now upload the translated script. To do so, follow these steps -
   1. Click on the Add button next to Script
   2. You will see the script-wiki page displayed here
   3. Login to script-wiki using your username and password that was mailed to you
   4. Now click on edit tab
   5. Copy and paste your translated script in wiki-markup from LibreOffice Writer document to this script-wiki page
   6. Click on Save Page button at the bottom of the script-wiki page
   7. This will save your translated script on the script-wiki page
   8. Now logout of script-wiki
   9. Set the status at the bottom of the web-page to Required', if not already done
   10. Click on Submit
8. Intimate your IITB Team Leader on completion of this stage or write to [administrator@spoken-tutorial.org]. Here is what we will check

Stage 2

Dubbing Instructions

1. Before dubbing, go through the tutorial on "How to use Audacity and ffmpeg" on our website. This is available under the FOSS category Spoken Tutorial Technology
2. Once again follow all the tips given in Guidelines on Narration
3. View the original tutorial
4. Make a note of the begin time of each sentence in the original
5. Record the script sentence by sentence giving an appropriate pause between sentences
6. Finish the entire recording in one go
7. Now split the audio at the noted time intervals (step 4)
8. Starting from the last one, slide the audio clip to sync with the corresponding video/activity on the screen.

9. Do this till all the audio clips are placed at the noted time intervals
10. Play the whole movie back and confirm that the dubbed audio and video are in sync
11. Save the movie as per the instructions given in "How to use Audacity and ffmpeg"
12. Review the resultant movie against the Dubbers' Checklist and make the required modifications
13. Intimate your IITB Team Leader on completion of this stage or write to [administrator@spoken-tutorial.org]. Here is what we will check

Upload Instructions

1. Login to the spoken tutorial website
2. Click on Update Existing Tutorial option
3. Choose from the drop-down boxes for FOSS, Level, Language and Tutorial Name and Submit
4. You will come to another page
   1. Click on the Add button next to Video
   2. In Video Status drop-down, choose Required
   3. Next, click on Choose File button and browse and choose the video file to upload
   4. Lastly, click on Submit
5. You will come back to the previous page
